Traveling with a diving wetsuit is more than just throwing it into a suitcase.
Improper packing, prolonged compression, or exposure to heat can cause neoprene to lose its elasticity and thermal properties more quickly – directly affecting comfort and safety underwater.
Why does the way you transport your wetsuit matter?
Neoprene is a material built around microscopic air bubbles. These bubbles are responsible for thermal insulation.
During travel, a wetsuit may be exposed to:
-prolonged compression,
-high temperatures
-moisture and lack of ventilation,
-contact with sharp pieces of equipment.
Each of these factors can accelerate wear and tear, even if the wetsuit still looks fine visually.
How to pack a wetsuit for air travel?
The best method is loose rolling.
Rolling reduces pressure points in the neoprene and helps prevent permanent creases.
Keep these rules in mind:
-The wetsuit should be completely dry before packing.
-Avoid compressing it under heavy equipment.
If possible, place the wetsuit on top of your luggage.

Transporting a wetsuit by car :
When traveling by car, the biggest enemy of a wetsuit is temperature.
Leaving it in a hot trunk or car cabin can lead to glue degradation and loss of material elasticity.
